Digital Detox Weekend at River Rock Inn
Author: Richard Porter | Photographer: Jake Campbell
When you step out of the car, you know you’re someplace different. The spicy smell of cedar, the emerald green of the surrounding forest. The quiet is disorienting at first.
For the next few days you’ll hear no pings, dings, text buzzes or beeps indicating status updates. You will be in the present—connected to your senses.
How can this peaceful seclusion only be an hour and a half drive from Seattle?
Entering the River Rock Inn, you admire the 10-ton stone fireplace, the centerpiece of the Great Room, flanked on both sides by a soaring walls of windows. The stones lend the lodge its name— they were pulled from the nearby Stillaguamish River. Over the mantle is draped an actual wolf pelt, mouth ajar.
Your hosts offer you aromatic and freshly-baked cookies, setting the tone for the level of care you’ll receive during your stay. Who doesn’t love a warm cookie?
Each suite in the River Rock Inn has a balcony that overlooks the forest. Some guests report that it’s so peaceful they can actually hear the sound of leaves falling.
The ambience at the River rock Inn transports you to whatever place you need to be in your life. It’s time to turn off your cell phone and reconnect; reconnect with your loved ones, reconnect with nature, reconnect with your body.
The lodge is a short trip from Seattle, Vancouver BC, and the coastal community of Everett. You can leave for the day and return to luxury at night.
Visit the River Rock Inn for the privilege of being yourself in your body in the present.
