Summer Meltdown Festival is Seattle NorthCountry’s biggest music festival. Located in rural Darrington an hour north of Seattle, this year’s Meltdown is headlined by electronic artists Bassnectar and Big Gigantic.

Looking to make the trek? Meltdown founder and native to the area, Josh Clauson, put together this locals-only list of experiences to optimize your Meltdown trip.

Before you go

Stock up on local organic produce from Garden Treasures on Highway 530 in Arlington.

“Get the goods just before you arrive at the campout. There's nothing better than nibbling on fresh organic fruit while dipping your toes in the crisp, cool river the morning after a night of dancing.”

Ride the trails at the new North Mountain Bike Park

“You can literally ride from the venue to the park. The views from this park are insane! If you're a mountain bike enthusiast I highly recommend bringing your bicycle and taking advantage of this park. Stop in Arlington at Velo Sports and tune up your bike for the weekend. Ask the folks there about the best tips on which trails to hit from Meltdown.”

“The Lower Mountain Skills Park is great for all ages. It features five miles of cross country and free ride trails for beginners through expert riders.”

Hike Whitehorse Mountain and check out the waterfalls

“It's just a couple mile drive and mellow four mile hike or jog up a gorgeous winding trail to an old mining cave that sits below the falls. From the mining cave, climb up a little further to stand under ice cold glacier waterfalls cascading down the mountain.”

Have a cold one at Darrington’s River Time Brewing

While you can sip on endless tasty craft beer from Deschutes Brewery at the festival, be sure to stop in Darrington to try the well-crafted beer at River Time Brewing.

“They turned the old defunct Town Hall into a gorgeous brewery, Stop by after one of your adventures and tell em Josh sent ya.”

Take a rafting trip with Adventure Cascades

Sign up the for a trip down the Stillaguamish River with Adventure Cascades.

“These guys are so fun and will take care of all the work. They'll shuttle you to and from the festival. Just bring some food and drinks and enjoy the ride. You might even end up with some Meltdown artists in your raft.”

Recharge and relax along the Stillaguamish River

“I highly recommend finding a moment for some peace and sanctity along the banks of the Stillaguamish River. It’s a short walk from the venue to several different sandy spots to sit and cool off. Take space and rejuvenate for the fun and festivities of Summer Meltdown.”
