Legends of the Blues Returns to the Byrnes Performing Arts Center
Legends of the Blues V presented Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 7:30pm at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center at the Arlington High School, 18821 Crown Ridge Boulevard, Arlington. Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door and kids under 12 are free. Tickets are available at brownpapertickets.com and at Flowers by George, 335 N. Olympic Avenue, in downtown Arlington.
The concert features Curtis Salgado a renowned soulful and honest blues singer. He is an original Blues Brother who helped transform John Belushi into “Joliet” Jake Blues and toured the country with Steve Miller and Santana. With a career spanning 40 years as vocalist, harmonicist and songwriter, Curtis Salgado is a one-of-a-kind talent whose music is as compelling as his story. From co-fronting The Robert Cray Band to leading his own band and recording nine solo albums, Curtis Salgado won the coveted Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer of The Year in 2013, the highest honor the blues world has to offer.
Opening the show, Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons of Seattle, will take the audience on a journey through the history of American roots music. They were awarded first place at the 2016 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, out of 94 solo/duo acts representing 16 countries. They were honored for their unique blend of pre-blues a cappella field hollers, fiddle and banjo breakdowns, and duet distillations of early jazz.
This concert is produced by Jeff Nicely, a local blues musician, for Arlington Arts Council. The Arlington Arts Council is a non-profit organization committed to bringing quality art experiences to the community of Arlington, Washington. The event is made possible by funding from the City of Arlington Hotel/Motel Tax Fund.
